December 2020 – wedding makeup for gorgeous Sophie at the Belsfield Hotel, Windermere, Cumbria
This has been a pretty strange year for all of us. Since March the world has been in a state of, well frankly, weirdness, with on and off lockdowns, regional tiers, queuing for the supermarket among many other things.
One of the changes that has affected me (and my family) most, and of course my gorgeous brides, is the changes that have been made to weddings. Currently only 15 people are allowed at a wedding and in certain regions, Greater Manchester included, no wedding reception can take place.
I am not here to argue whether or not the rules that have been put in place are correct, merely to record how life has changed in the last 9 months.
In the main, bookings have been postponed (often two or three times) until 2021 and 2022, but some of my brides have taken the decision to get married despite the madness that surrounds us. Sophie was one of those brides.
Originally she had planned to get married in Italy, but due to the world changes this was not possible. Instead she and her gorgeous now husband decided that the Belsfield Hotel, overlooking Lake Windermere, was the place they would say ‘I do’.
Getting Sophie and her bridal tribe was emotional for a number of reasons, not least because her sister was a bridesmaid and had had a baby only 9 weeks before. Having had two babies myself I know the madness that is the first few weeks and months of life with a new baby. Talking with her about that madness whilst not able to see anyone (due to lockdown) really struck me and when I was privileged to witness grandma holding baby for the first time, I must admit that I had to hold back tears.
Life will resume to normal at some point soon (I hope) and with news of a vaccine being approved the light at the end of the tunnel seems almost in sight. So whilst we are still within the madness I think it is important to record how life has been through lockdown and how, despite all the adversity, life and love has gone on undeterred and that is something to celebrate.
A couple of photos from Sophie’s day.
